Ok, (Carpool) Dan. You Win.

I’ve been carpooling to work with a couple of people - but usually it's just me and (Carpool) Dan. We've been having a small war going on of who can come up with the 'worst' playlists on our ipods. The only unofficial ‘rule’ being you can't put anything on the playlist that you wouldn't normally listen to.

So, the war has sort of died down the last couple of weeks due to one or both of us being out sick and poor weather conditions that have dictated we take my Blazer and that I focus on driving.

...until this morning....

As I mentioned before, (Carpool) Dan usually listens to 'goth' rock, some classic rock and general weird stuff I've never heard of before. We took his car this morning and carpool rules dictate that 'Driver chooses music', so he plugged in his iPod. He didn’t so much as crack a smile.

Now, as many of you know, I can usually identify a song within the first couple of notes. I kick @$$ at ‘Name that iTune’.

The first song starts playing, and I just LOST IT. I am laughing my fool head off because we are listening to the opening notes of a song by ABBA (It was either ‘Dancing Queen or Take a Chance on Me’.) After I finish cracking up, I manage to say 'What the hell is this??'

Dan: “It’s the ‘No Shame’ Playlist”
Me: “Oh God, it gets worse??”
Dan: “I wouldn’t say worse…”

The next song is the BeeGees.

Me: “Don’t tell me you have ‘Staying Alive’ on there…”
Dan: *grabs the ipod, presses the click wheel a couple times*
Me: “Noooooo!!”

It alternated between Abba and the BeeGees (Saturday Night Fever)
with Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Celine Dion thrown in for good measure. Though it was mostly 70s disco and such…“The Theme from Shaft”, “I Will Survive”, “Jungle Boogie”, “Disco Inferno”….It went on like this for the entire ride to and from work. It was hysterical.

Me: “Run Like Hell - (Pink Floyd)?”
Dan: “It’s exactly what the Southern Tier radio stations need…”
Both: “More Pink Floyd”
Me: “Gotcha”

The thing is, I don’t think I can beat that. I didn’t see it coming and there’s no way I can top it.

I think (Carpool) Dan may have won. I just hope to God he doesn't break out any Mariah Carey CD's....
