Adventures in Rezoning - Part I

It's 8:19 AM and I'm sitting on the wall to my flower bed in my front yard (Yes, wirless rocks!) and watching an insane amount of traffic pass by.

It's impossible for me to turn south (left) on to the road in front of house because of the traffic. I don't even bother to attempt it anymore. I wind up turning north, and then doing a circuit through the development on the block behind me in order to get back out on my road facing south. Half of my morning commute is just getting down this 1 mile strech of road.

Anyways, there's a proposal before the Town Board to rezone the lot that is 10 houses down from mine. It is currently zoned residential, and there's an old, admittedly ugly (but salvagable) house there. The proposal is to zone it commercial so a 6300 sq foot daycare center can be built there (note : the lots on this side of the street run between 1/2 to a full acre - long narrow lots that run almost to the street behind us.) I don't have anything against daycare centers. I sent my kids to one while I was in college, and paid a very pretty penny for it too. But it wasn't on a horrendously busy road that is an accident waiting to happen.

So, I'm sitting out here now with the video camera. I want the town board to REALLY see what the traffic situation is out here. I'll come back in an hour with another update.

hey, you forgot the buses. Now the kids get picked up and dropped off at the daycare. There is NO way a bus could get in / out of this location. The day care people said they could walk the kids to /from school. It's under 3 blocks. You only need to cross the bank parking lot, cross the busy side street and up a steep hill. And hope the sidewalks have been cleared / salted well in the winter. I wonder if the parents of the kids have been informed about the proposed move and changes.

Yeah, I should have mentioned the buses...and the snow. I try not to think of the snow when it's 85 degrees and sunny ;)
