"The Rock"
Geez, I have Derek go through the trouble of setting up a blog for me because I thought I would have so much to write about... And then I get writers block. *sigh*
Well, I'll give it a whirl...
A few weeks ago my boyfriend, Dan (more on him in future blog entries) gave me a present which has become a source of torment for my friends and coworkers.
When he handed it to me he warned, "It's not what you think it is, but it is a rock!". And indeed, it was. In a small gift box (the ones that normally contain jewelry) he had put a silver dollar sized, polished, heart-shaped quartz rock. Yeah, Reaaaaal Cute, Dan :-P
Actually, I found it was much funnier when I started using the joke on my coworkers.
Me - "Oh my God, Beth! You will NOT believe the size of the rock Dan gave me"
Beth - "No Way! He didn't! DID HE??"
Me - "Seriously! *holds out palm of left hand* See?? It's a rock!"
Beth - *Rolls Eyes* "Ugh"
I repeated this for the secretary, my office mate, and various friends at dinners and parties. Though I have to admit, the joke is even funnier when it's both of us setting it up...
We went to dinner with two other couples last week. After dinner, I nudged Dan and pointed to the box in my purse.
Dan - "Did you show everyone the rock I gave you?"
Friends - *Stunned Silence*
Me - "Um, I didn't think we were telling people about it yet" (my left hand is out of view under the table)
Dan - "Oh... oops. Well, you might as well show them now."
Friends - *Continued mouth-gaping and stunned silence*
Me - *Holds out palm of left hand* "See?? Isn't it a pretty rock??"
Friends - "GAHHHH!!!!"
Ok, maybe it would be funnier if you had been there...
